Motorsport

Motorsport is a huge part of my life. It’s what I watch on TV, It’s what I do on the weekend, It’s the games I play, it’s all I think about. I really do live and breath racing!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved motorsport. My Dad used to compete regually in club meetings at Winton, Phillip Island and also some drag races at heathcote with plenty of success, so it was always going to happen that one day I’d want to race.

It was only a matter of time untill I got involved in some form of racing. When I was 13 I recieved my first Go Kart for Christmas which I then raced out at Rochester for a year or so before heading to bigger meetings around the state.

From there I couldn’t get enough of it! I Would race all weekend and then come home on a Sunday night and jump on the computer and race online while waiting for the Formula 1 telecast to start on TV.

Below is a brief description about the main three forms of racing I’m currently involved with.

Sim Racing

Sim Racing is by far one of the best forms of motorsport in my opinion. You can race any time of the day, against anyone in the world, in large variety of cars. Even real life professional drivers jump online from time to time for a race!

Currently in Sim Racing I’m focused on racing the V8 Supercar in the Offical V8 Supercar Online Series. This is a series that has 4 12 week seasons per year, with each Monday night being a new round and track. Each Monday night we regularly get up around 80 entries which gets split in to 4 divisions depending on your times and skill level.

I’ve been fortunate enough to of done pretty well in the series, finishing every season held to date within the top 3 of the overall championship, one of which I won the championship.

The racing in the V8 Supercar is as tough as I’ve ever had in real life. Qualifying times are super close, 1/10th of a second can be the difference between starting pole or 5th. It’s ultra competitive and everybody races hard, but clean. Which is half the reason it’s been so successful. So much in fact that Tatts.com has entered a team, sponsoring two cars to run in the series every Monday night, one of which is myself.

Karting

I started karting over 7 years ago now and had some pretty good results for the amount of racing I was able to afford to do.

In the last two years in which I raced I took out the Golden Power Series twice in a row, the second time I even missed the first round due to not having the budget to be able to compete.

There have also been a few other highlights in there as well although I have never won a state or national tite. (Haven’t even entered a national title because of that budget thing again)

As much as online sim racing fills my cravings to race, I still miss karting a lot. Sim racing still doesn’t give you the feel for the car/kart or even the risks that are involved in making a good pass on another competitor. These are the things I miss most about karting.

Below are some stats of my Karting Career.

Racing Achievement: (open meetings)
1st (x12) – 2nd (x7) – 3rd (x6
Racing Achievement: (club meetings*)
1st (x36) – 2nd (x2) – 3rd (x3)

Nitro Buggy

Nitro Buggy Racing is the latest of my racing hobbies which started a little over a year ago.

My sisters boyfriend and my old man both went out and brought a buggy each, which then I had to do the same.

The bug for racing these things has defiantly bitten me hard! Trying to figure out how the buggy is handling while driving it from the side of the track is very challenging, which is why I am enjoying it so much!

I’m currently only doing a handful of races between Shepparton and Barmah and have already had a couple of victories in the Novice Buggy class.

I’ve now been told to I have to go up to Pro Buggy which is going to be even tougher. But it’s only going to make me improve, and the challenge of getting it right is what I love most!
